The concept behind Superiority is understood by anyone who has played StarCraft. They were too busy researching the tech tree, while zerglings were chewing on their supply depos.

I think its going to take a major near defeat of US forces in a future war for any effective house cleaning to take place. And even then any congressional investigation will protect its favorites and cover its ass. It will be business as usual, throw money at the problem, create new agencies, and sanction more studies that never address root cause. The Republic is collapsing upon itself because the current systems, rules and laws make it near impossible to get rid of anyone that is unelected.

I concur 100% and all of this is eminently preventable by a self-reflective and rational national elite.

We have no such thing.

In the podcast, you share several examples of defective and/or failed systems the US military has developed/purchased in the last half century. The frequency and ongoing nature of these failures could lead a rational person to wonder if effective, operational systems are not the principal intent, but military industrial happiness? If a system/solution is effective and useful it is likely only an accident.

Christopher, that is certainly a possibility and I also think it is the inevitable outcomes of not matching your concepts of operations/employment left of bang with real-world war-time fitment to purpose.

A good portion comes from not thoroughly understanding the purchasers "operational concept", i.e., what they see the materiel solution doing as it's mission objective. The supplier, on the other hand must create a "concept of operations" elucidate how the proposed materiel solution design will fulfill the purchaser's desire meets and needs.

This single up front step is the entry level error most industrial military designs fail at. I make hammers, I sell hammers. Your problem looks like a hammer will resolve it nicely. Please purchase my $1,000 hammer. If you buy two, I'll throw in a $5,000 toilet seat for your combat aircraft crew from my toilet seat line of business at a 70% discount.

Fixing what needs fixing will need to be done at the fire team level, as well as all administrative and support activities. I couldn't count the number of reforms that never got past division level, because the Old Guard didn't approve, or pass it on. This is a real hardening of the military arteries, and exercise and proper diet are sorely needed. Less technical, and more blood and muscle are needed. Basics, and training. Everything else is slop, and waiting around for a terrible reckoning.

Brian, from your lips to Odin's ears. A top to bottom martial reformation has to happen before the near-peer-peer reckoning approaching on the horizon. This is the first of several in a series in which I will try to offer some remedies to turn the ship around. I see no will to steer away from the shoals right now.

Thank you. I believe what is needed is a man with a sharp axe, and little conscious concern for etiquette and protocol. The rot is deep, and needs burning out.

I would be obliged if you offered up some recommendations once I publish the follow-on series.
